Well, you can try Secondhand Lands. It's a 3D MMORPG based on child's fairytales, with the tales twisted a bit... It's pretty fun and easy to level, and the people are generally nice.
WebEarthOnline is a great game. At first you have to be a bluebird but later, once you have enough points, on you can be elk, wolf, other birds, coyotes, snakes and more. You explore a online land with other players, breed and have young with real or fake players, clean, eat and more to collect points for animals until you reach the top.

I think this sounds like might be what you're looking for. In this game, you roleplay as a wolf (obviously). It does not require a download and is free. You can chat, raise a family, hunt, post in the forums, and train for your rank that you choose! It's updated quite often with new features. The feature currently being worked on is that players will soon be able to create their own cave to live in. It's still pretty new, so new members are currently welcome to join the pack!
*Also, there's WolfQuest, but this one requires a download. You survive as a wolf in the wild and eventually have to help your pups survive.*
