I've been a user of Dishnetwork for almost 3 years and have never had any problems. You should contact the providers that service your area because depending on where you are you will get better (or worse) coverage.
You can get a cheap LCD HDTV from your local Walmart or target, most likely on eBay and amazon is where u will find one. I wish you good luck on buying your new HDTV.

Panasonic has some good quality HDTV's with really good picture quality. The TC-PUT50 series is also pretty cheap compared to other HDTV's as well. They go for about $950 at the lowest price.
Try hooking your HDTV to your satellite via HDMI cable. If that doesn't work, consider analog component cables.

HD shows will show up on a HDTV without any HD services through the cable or satellite companies. HD shows won't show up on any other kind of tv without subscribing to HD through the cable or satellite company.
