Any thing they are intrested in. if you buy them something exciting and expensive then do it as a joint one. I should know as my birthday is on 6 days before Xmas!
Whatever they want. But please, find a way to make their birthday a separate occurance from Christmas! Wrap their gifts in birthday paper, not Christmas wrap, and make sure they have a cake! Don't make their birthday an inconveneince to the holiday; rather, make sure that both events are specially treated.
