I would go ahead and bite the bullet and get a complete aftermarket system... For about $1100, you can have a descent aftermarket system. for $1100. I got an Eclipse CD5030 head unit, 4 Rockford Fosgate 5x7 door speakers, 2 Rockford Fosgate P2 sub woofers in a box, and a Rockford Fosgate T500-1BD sub amp. The system is banging, but not competition quality. If you are older and don't want to rattle you neighbors windows, you can probably get away with about $500 for a descent system getting an 8" Amplified Bazooka Bass Tube ($250~$270 on ebay), 4 5x7" door speakers and a descent head unit (kenwood, clarion, blaupunkt, etc) ($150~$200)
