Soap may be unsuitable. Try mixing 1 part water with 3 parts white vinegar. Works great, the smell does not last long. I like windex but instead of using a cloth towel try and use an old piece of news paper. If you are cleaning anything real dirty in the future you should use Dawn dish soap...it is the best product out there for cleaning materials...just dilute some in a bucket of warm water and go at it...it is better than any cleaning product out there :)

∙ 13y agoTSP or Tri-sodium Phosphate is the best cleaner for washing windows. The main ingredient in automatic dish washer cleaner is TSP but only use a pinch. As a rule when using a squeegee to wash windows if the water trails out from the edges after you use the squeegee you have too much TSP in your water. Never use window cleaner or newspaper to clean windows as they will etch your windows just like sitting rain water or a sprinkler will.
