A guided wave ndt equipment is that equipment used to perform Guided Wave Nondestructive Testing. Most equipments are based on piezoelectric or magnetostrictive collars.
The most obvious answer is that you don't have to take apart a piece of equipment or aircraft when there may not be anything wrong with it. Labor costs for NDT are a lot lower then tearing the whole thing apart.

avr would be cheaper but normally provides a "sawtooth" type wave instead of a pure sine wave. AVR was made for computer equipment that is less sensitive than home theater equipment where a "dirty" wave will create artifacts and shadows as well as have a noise effect on audio equipment. In short if you can afford it get a pure sine wave UPS, but if not AVR will be better than nothing.

The first thing you would need to do is figure out what equipment you will be inspecting. IMO you would be better of installing a non contact radar probe(open wave) in a slop oil tank. The reason being if your process is not hot it will stick to the probe and give you false echos.
