Hermit crabs need a diet rich in proteins, calcium, zeaxanthin, chitin, and keratin. They also need the oils and juices present in fresh fruits and vegetables. It is best to use all organic, as they are closely related to insects and are more sensitive to pesticides than you or I might be.
most commercial foods are not safe for them, as they contain the preservatives Ethoxyquin and Copper sulfate, both used in insecticides and these work as a slow toxin on the hermit crabs.
