it is a small genus of the Asteraceae family, occurring natively in the mediterranean. two species are commonly known, Hyoseris scabra and Hyoseris radiata.

another species is called Hyoseris frutescens, which is endemic to the Maltese islands. this species have fleshy leaves and its evergreen, while the previous species are an annual and a herbacoeus perennial respesctively.
