The farmers
A large farm that has many who workers who live on the land that they work is called a ranch. If the workers rent the land they work it could be called a tenant farm.
That is called a plantation. It is typically associated with specialized crops like sugar, cotton, or tobacco, and relies on a large workforce, often including enslaved laborers in historical contexts.
Because they worked on the farm. A long time ago, wealthy people would buy large portions of land so that they could make money off of the crops or livestock within that land. They had to have workers tho, so they used slaves.
Well, darling, that's called a plantation. It's where you'll find a big ol' farm with a bunch of workers living right there on the property. Just picture rows of crops as far as the eye can see, and you've got yourself a good old-fashioned plantation.

I currently have no farm equipment for sale. I dont live on a farm. I live in the city. Farms are around me, but we dont have any land.

George and Lennie dream of owning a piece of land together where they can live off the "fat of the land," tend rabbits, and live independently. They hope to escape their current lives as itinerant ranch workers and achieve this dream of a secure and peaceful life.
I don't think You have to live in the country for a farm. But it will be probably quite troublesome to get arable land in the city... and I don't see real farm without one.
Serfs who were agricultural workers got a place to live, most of the farm production, and protection in exchange for some of the farm production or labor. Some jobs serfs did were not agricultural. For example, some serfs specialized in transportation, as teamsters or boatmen or rivers. These were likely to be given a place to live and money in exchange for labor.
Fish live in water because that's where they evolved. Land based farm animals can not survive in the sea.
