A limerick is a silly poem with five lines. They are often funny or nonsensical. It has a rhyming scheme of AABBA and the third and fourth lines are shorter than the other three.

e.g. This one of Edward Lear's nonsense rhymes...

There was a wine waiter from Wapping

Drew corks for a week without stopping

He cried "It's too bad,

All the practice I've had

And yet cannot prevent them from popping."
