Low Pressure Areas allow for cloud formation, therefore these areas can bring precipitation. Forms of precipitation are rain, snow, sleet, etc. Thunderstorms occur when the is stronger and the pressure is far below normal, which allows for more cloud formation.

Weather stations can detect this and are programed to predict that there will be a storm soon, if it detects that the pressure is going up, then it'll predict for sunny weather.

When does storm form?

Storms form when a low pressure area appears, it usually appears in the Pacific, then as excessive evaporation happens because of too much heat clouds form w/c is then "sucked in" the low pressure area making it stronger, as more evaporation happens the storm becomes stronger.
