I believe it is called an aural heamatoma. That being the build up of fluid in the tip of the dogs ear lobe, due to burst blood vessels. As far as I can tell, it is irritating to the dog, but treatment is only aesthetic. Can be treated with antibiotics, drainage or an operation requiring stitches. Usually caused by bacteria, ear mites, ticks, or foreign debris in the ear lobe. Usual signs will be scratching, tipping of the head to that side, pain on palpation and scratching.
