How about a few? Absorption of light through the lens(es). Chromatic aberation, requiring, preferably, a multiple lens like an achromatic or apochromatic lens which increases absorption. Reflection of light off of the objective lens. Maximum exposure to the elements, causing fogging. Maximum diameter of about 40 inches due to gravity. Difficulty of making at least four optical surfaces to reduce chromatiic aberation (and, these must stay aligned for the life of the telescope). Enough?
Chromatic aberration, which is coloured fringes round the object you are looking at that aren't there in the original. It is caused by the lens refracting different colours by a different amount.
The three major functions are brighten, resolve, and magnify.
Newton did not invent the telescope, he invented the reflecting telescope. The reflecting telescope was a major improvement over the distorting refracting telescope.

Newton made many Major advancements, like Law of Universal Gravity, Law of Light composition, Reflective Telescope and Calculus. Newton also pioneered chemistry, under the name of Alchemy.
A telescope must gather large amounts of light from a dim, distant object; therefore, it needs a largeobjective lens to gather as much light as possible and bring it to a bright focus. Because the objective lens is large, it brings the image of the object to a focus at some distance away
A major disadvantage? Size. It's expensive to launch a telescope into space, the heavier the object, the more expensive. You have to balance the size (thus weight) of a telescope against the cost, and the capability of the rocket. In astronomy the major factor in a telescopes effectiveness is size. The bigger the telescope, the dimmer the object that can be observed, which often means the more distant objects, and the higher resolution images they obtain. Space telescopes give this all up to be above the atmosphere because the air restricts the resolution of images, as it distorts the light that passes through it. So in exchange for better resolution (not limited by the atmosphere) they give up size. On top of this you have maintenance issues, as it's normally impossible to fix you have to have simpler, more robust (and expensive) instruments which can limit what you can do.

One major problem with the refractor telescope used by Galileo was sagging lens.
Galileo was the first to use a telescope for major discoveries, around the year 1610.

Major disadvantage of asynchronous transmission is that the transmission lines is idle during the time intervals between transmitting characters.
