Metamorphosis:

when an insect develops from an egg into an adult, when it changes form.

Two main types, complete and incomplete metamorphosis.

Incomplete:

In incomplete metamorphosis the larvae, called nymphs, look like smaller adults. Grasshoppers and cockroaches go through this.

Complete:

In complete metamorphosis there are four stages, egg, larvae, pupa and adult. In complete metamorphosis the larvae look very different then the adult. Butterflies, beetles, flies, bees, wasps, and ants go through this.
