A meteoroid is any natural object in the solar system the size of dust to size of a boulder.
It may have been created as a result of ejecta from an impact on a planet as in the Mars meteorite, debris from an asteroid collision like the fragments that fell in Sudan in October 20008, a piece of a comet as in the Leonid's (which are dust and debris from comet Tempel-Tuttle) or it may have just formed that size.
The name change is generally associated if it enters Earths atmosphere. If it strikes the ground it is a called meteorite. If it burns up in the atmosphere of comes in at such a shallow angle it goes back in to space again it is known as a meteor.
The object described is a meteoroid. When a meteoroid enters Earth's atmosphere, it experiences friction with air molecules, causing it to heat up and create a bright streak of light, known as a meteor or "shooting star." Most meteoroids burn up completely due to this intense heat before reaching the surface. If a meteoroid survives its descent and lands on Earth, it is then called a meteorite.
Which one?
A meteoroid in the atmosphere is a "meteor", and one that reaches the ground is a "meteorite".
A meteorite! hey here is a joke! if a meteor that hits is a meteorite what do you call one that misses? a meteorworong!
one is in space and the other is the earth atmophere
A bill.
If it's big, its an asteroid, if its small its a meteoroid. (But no one defines "big" or "small".

When a sodium atom loses a valence electron, it becomes a positively charged ion called a sodium ion (Na+). When a sodium atom gains a valence electron, it becomes a negatively charged ion called a sodium ion (Na-).

You may only breathe out of one nostril at a time due to a natural process called nasal cycle, where one nostril becomes more dominant for a period before switching to the other nostril.
One flees from a country (or from persecution) and becomes a refugee. If one leaves a country as a protest one becomes an emigré, but this distinction is often not made.
