A sniper rifle is a precision rifle that has a telescopic sight which allows operators to target an object that is far in the distance. Sniper rifles are used in military combat.
Not necessarily. If you wish to become a military sniper, you'll have to be in the military already, of course. If you want to be a sniper in something outside the military, such as law enforcement or some backwoods militia, then no.
Sniper is an Army and Marine MOS. It is not related to rank or paygrade.
A sniper in the military would get paid appropriate to their pay grade. The same is true for a police sniper. A sniper other than police or military is considered an assassin.
I know a good sniper film. It's not from the military but it is a great movie. It's called "The Sniper".
Some of the most popular guns being used by the American military include the M-16, M-249 Saw, M40A1 which is a sniper rifle, M-24 sniper rifle, and the M4 Carbine rifle. These are among the most commonly used guns by the American military infantry and special ops branch.
Some law enforcement agencies have used the .270 as a sharpshooter's weapon, but it was never military issue.
per websites, sniper characters on television ("NCIS" and possibly "Bones" are all ex-snipers...Hollywood types of course (meaning fiction), sniper books, sniper schools, and new powerful sniper rifles such as the BMG .50 caliber (BMG=Browning Machine Gun) and 20mm.South Africa's 20mm sniper rifle isn't totally new, the Japanese Army in WWII used one for anti-tank roles.A "military" sniper was (used to be, still is, what ever people want to call it these days) a "military sharpshooter" or "military marksman" or "expert rifleman", whose function was to kill enemy officers, radio operators, machinegunners (crew served weapons), any leader, and anyone else that was important enough to warrant "selective killing."
He wasn't. He never even served in the military. There is a common urban myth that he was a sniper and used the sweater to hide his tattoos. This is completely false. See the related link for more information.
A sniper rifle is simply a rifle used by a military sniper. Just about every gun shop will carry hunting rifles. The type will vary depending on what you are hunting- squirrels, rabbit, deer, turkey, bear, elk or elephants. What you are calling a "sniper rifle" is simply a bolt action center fire rifle with a telescope.
You will have to define the term "Sniper rifle". It could mean anything. The only TRUE sniper rifle is a rifle issued to a sniper. They are simply rifles that are capable of long range accurate shooting. The rifles used by US military snipers during the Vietnam was were simply civilian hunting rifles with decent telescopes.
