The Rem Choke was first marketed on the Remington 11-87 simi-automatic shotgun. This firearm was introduced in 1987, thus 11-87. The Rem choke is a metal threaded tube about 2 inches long threaded on the outside. The muzzle of the barrel is threaded on the inside. The original Remington 1100 simi-auto had a built in choke and when you purchased it you could only get one choke, full, modified, improved were the most common. With the 11-87, you buy only one gun with one barrel and with a Rem Choke of your choice. If your 11-87 came with a ' Full' Rem Choke for ducks and geese and you want to shoot quail, all you need is to purchase a Rem Choke in Improved Cylinder. Screw out one, screw in another. Neat, huh!
no, the improved modified is between a full choke and a modified choke check out this website http://www.wildfowlmag.com/tips_strategies/shotgun_062304/
Modified describes a choke. Invector is a system of choke tubes.
from smallest pattern to largest: full improved modified modified improved cylinder cylinder (no choke)
You can use steel shot with a choke anywhere from cylinder to modified, i wouldn't recommend using steel with a improved modified or a full choke.
In both the U.S. and British scale of chokes, Full choke is the tightest choke for game guns (there are some "extra tight" chokes but these are generally for other thsan game guns). The English 3/4 (three quarter) choke is equivalent to the U.S. "Improved Modified" The English 1/2 (quarter ) choke is equivant to the U.S. "modified" In other words the Mod choke is one half the tightness of a full choke and a the Improved Modified is three quarters the tightness of a full choke.
Modified is a smaller, tighter pattern than improved cylinder. Basically, the slope in a modified choke tube is steeper than an improved cylinder choke tube.
