The tundra is not a desert, it is an entirely different biome. The tundra has low precipitation as does the desert but it is not classified as a desert by most scientists.
There are three types of 'cold' deserts:
Cold winter desert - summers may be warm or even hot but the winters can be bitterly cold. The Gobi and Patagonian Deserts are cold winter deserts.
Cool coastal deserts - the climate is moderated by nearby ocean currents which prevent extreme temperatures. The Atacama and Namib Deserts are examples.
Polar Desert - Very cold temperatures year round - Antarctica is an example.

∙ 14y agoThe Australian mainland does not have any cold deserts. The only land that would qualify would be the Australian Antarctic Territory, which is part of the continent of Antarctica.
