The word "testament" means an agreement in writing, between 2 or more parties. It is similar to a contract, but is much stronger, and binding. It is also known as a Covenant.

The New Testament is the second half of The Bible that is used by Christians, for which the first half is the bible used by the Jews.

The God of the Jews prophesied (100% accuracy predicted) that He would send a New Testament, in Jeremiah 31:31. Note however, that the word used for "new" in this verse means renewed, not brand new.

God was saying that he would bring the whole world to himself through trust, and faith.
