I have owned both in my lifetime and I'd say Canaries are nicer birds although they make a lot of noise and finches are the quieter ones, which are still friendly.
It really depends on the personality of the bird, all birds are different. If you want a friendly bird its best to get a young one that has been hand tamed.
That's my opinion, they re both friendly.
Neither one can really be handled much, they are just to look at and listen to. If the Canary is a male, it will probably sing more than the finch. A finch tends to be more of a chirp and the Canary has a longer song or call.

The Gouldian finch has a red head and yellow belly. They are native to Australia. Any Gouldian finch in North America is an escaped pet.
The simplest food is commercial canary egg-biscuit food (from a pet store), and canary mix - you can help the bird a little by soaking some in hot water for a few hours.
they do not eat from the bird feeder, coss you mite not have wild finch food, you can got it from any pet shop!
The most common pet bird with the shortest lifespan is the finch and canary.Finches and canaries live on average for three to six years. There have been rare cases of them living up to 10 years with amazing (expensive) care.
FINCHES will eat a type of seed called WILD FINCH BLEND wich can be bought at any pet store, target or walmart. FINCHES can also eat spray millet, parakeet mix, finch mix, Japanese millet, green spray millet , and game bird crumbles.
It depends on what type of canary it is, some may cost more than others, also certain stores have different prices. Try checking your local pet stores to find prices that are on you budget and the type of bird you want.
At your local pet store, I am sure they have bird seed or pellets that is for finches & canaries, or just canaries. It is not very expensive, and it should be pretty substantial. Just remember that your bird is going to need some vitamin A, so give them veggies (just not avocados...those are toxic to birds).

Canaries are usually sold in pet stores.
