Well, I have complex partial seizures, and I can tell you what happens to me when I have them. It starts with an aura, or a warning that I'm about to have a seizure. I see a flashing light in my right eye. Sometimes this aura goes away, and I don't have the seizure. But if I do, the light spreads and spreads until it moves to my left eye. Then I smell a strange smell, and everything starts looking very obscure. By now, I have lost control of myself, especially my speech. If you try to talk to me, I'll try to respond, but all I can get out is random stuttering and sometimes even screaming. If the seizure lasts for more than five minutes, you should usually call the ambulance. They give me this medicine called Diastat. It puts me to sleep, and I usually wake up no longer seizing. But I have a HORRIBLE headache, and I throw up a lot.

The actual meaning of a complex partial seizure is that it starts out in part of the brain, and it gradually spreads to the other side until I lose control.

Some partial seizures are associated with an altered level of consciousness, even though the person might appear to be awake and his or her eyes may be open. In this type of seizure, called a complex partial seizure, the affected person is unaware of the people nearby during the event, is not aware of his or her own movements or behaviors during the seizure, and does not remember the seizure after it occurs. When the person having a partial seizure is aware of having a seizure, is aware of his or her surroundings and remembers the event afterward, the seizure is classified as a simple partial seizure.

How do you know when a seizure is going to start?

well, there are many types of seizures. if someone is having a grand mal, the person will become unconcious and either become stiff, jerk their body, or both. when someone has a simple partial seizure, you sometimes cant tell at all. but, when having a simple seizure, someones arm or leg will twitch or jerk. with a complex partial seizure, the person will become unconcious, and maybe jerk their body.

How can someone detect a complex partial seizure?

Complex partial seizures are hard to detect because they have normal human attributes, such as moving around and having the eyes open. However, if someone were to ask a simple question and get a very odd response or no response at all and the suspect seems to have very little control of his or her actions, this could be indicative of a complex partial seizure.

Can complex partial seizures become generalized seizures?

Spreading of the epileptiform (seizure)discharge during complex partial seizures can result in secondary generalization(which means a partial seizure may spread within the brain-a process known as secondary generalization )with a tonic-clonic convulsion(generalized seizures).so yes, complex partial seizures can become generalized. The mechanism of how this happens is not fully understood in medicine but there are various explanations !!!

Is having a seizure the same as going into shock?

no not at all. i have had some seizures. when you have a seizure, you usually see an aura, which looks like a light that moves in front of you eyes. if you have a grand mal seizure, you usually just black out and then, you start to jerk your body. going into shock is totally different. you just basically go blank. well, i guess it is kind of like some seizures. the most common seizure is the simple partial. many people dont even know when they have a simple partial. sometimes, simple partials lead to complex partials. complex partials are when you see the aura, then black out. when you have a simple partial, you just go blank, then move on. so, i guess having shock can be a little like simple partial seizures, but they are not at all the same. no not at all. i have had some seizures. when you have a seizure, you usually see an aura, which looks like a light that moves in front of you eyes. if you have a grand mal seizure, you usually just black out and then, you start to jerk your body. going into shock is totally different. you just basically go blank. well, i guess it is kind of like some seizures. the most common seizure is the simple partial. many people dont even know when they have a simple partial. sometimes, simple partials lead to complex partials. complex partials are when you see the aura, then black out. when you have a simple partial, you just go blank, then move on. so, i guess having shock can be a little like simple partial seizures, but they are not at all the same.

What can cause complex partial seizures?

Complex partial seizures have no known cause other than coming from a form of epilepsy. These seizures are often preceded by a seizure aura, and usually resort in an altered state of conciousness.

How can you tell that you had a seizure?

well, i have had two complex partial seizures in my whole life. when you have a partial seizure, you see an aura, or light that blocks your vision, and you sometimes become unconcious. i have not had a seizure for a very long time. if you have a grand mall seizure, you smell an intense smell or see something. your vision can become blurry. then, you usually become unconcious and start to become stiff or jerk your body. many people have seizures every day. and many people don't. seizures are symptoms of epilepsy.

Does anyone have info on temporal lobe seizures?

The type of seizure that arises in the temporal lobe is usually the complex partial. It may be accompanied by an aura. The aura may last anywhere from a few seconds up to a minute or two before consciousness is impaired. Sometimes, a person experiencing a complex partial seizure can continue to interact with the invironment to some extent for the duration of the seizure, but tipically this ability is impaired. Afterward, the person may have no memory of the events that took place. The duration of the seizure is usually 2 to 3 minutes, but it may be as short as 30 seconds or as long as 5v to 10 minutes - sometimes even longer.

What are simple partial seizures?

Simple partial seizures do not spread from the focal area where they arise. Symptoms are determined by the part of the brain affected. The patient usually remains conscious during the seizure and can later describe it in detail.

What is a jacksonian seizure?

Jacksonian seizures are like other epileptic seizures in that the are caused by abnormal electrical activity in a localized area of the brain. Seizures of this type typically cause no change in awareness or alertness. They are small seizures, often not even noticed, being just a brief alteration in movement, sensation or nerve function.
