Plague pits were huge pits dug to bury the victims of the black death. They were used mainly by cities and towns as a way to deal with the large scale of deaths. A death cart would go through the streets with the driver crying "Bring out your dead!" and people would emerge from their houses and put loved, but infected ones onto the cart. The cart would then head up to the plague pit, usually located beyond the town or city walls, and the corpses would be laid on top of each other in dense piles.
