I'm not too sure what you mean exactly, I'm going to give you two replies: Type 1 Diabetes Type 1 Diabetes is when the cells that ought to secrete insulin, the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, are not working or not present. Tablets taken for Type 2 diabetes will not work for Type 1 diabetics because they work by stimulating sluggish cells in the pancreas. If the cells are not there, you can't stimulate them to work. Some people become diabetic after a virus damages the Islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. Trauma to the pancreas can do it as well, for instance, in a car accident. And some people are born with it. Type 2 Diabetes In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas contains the Islets of Langerhans that secrete insulin, but they are not producing sufficient insulin for the body's needs. Some women develop this in pregnancy, but the most common cause is obesity. If people slimmed to a normal weight, many would find that their Type 2 diabetes either goes away or else can be controlled by careful attention to what they eat. A Type 1 diabetic is usually quite thin and the opposite tends to be true for Type 2 diabetes. In both types, genes and race play a part. A lot of people from Asian origin get diabetes.
