Acid rain is caused by emissions of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides which react with the water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids.Nitrogen oxides can be produced naturally by lightning strikes and sulphur dioxide is produced by volcanic eruptions and industrial emissions.

It also can be from gases from burning coal and oil released into the air.
