Enzymes are a type of protein that catalyse chemical reactions.

There are many different types. They speed up the reaction by

lowering the activation energy. This is the amount of energy needed

to begin the reaction.

The proteins that are vital to living things because they speed

up chemical reactions are called enzymes. They are catalysts that

lower the activation energy of chemical reactions.
