It is a critical component of the rear suspension which GM charges 500 to 700 because a set of bushings go bad. You can replace them by pressing out the old and pressing in new replacements from an Auto Parts dealer.

To Install: Rear strut assembly removal/installation # Position the strut on the rear suspension. # Install the strut to knuckle bolts. Tighten the bolts to 90 lb ft (122 Nm). # Connect the stabilizer bar link to the strut. # Install the tire and wheel assembly. # Install the three upper strut mounting nuts. Tighten the nuts to 30 lb ft (41 Nm). # Lower the vehicle. # Check and adjust the rear wheel alignment if necessary.
The factory service manual states that rear camber is not adjustable; only the rear toe is adjustable via the control rods. However, worn rear suspension parts can throw off the camber, including (but not limited to) worn suspension arm bushings (also called a "control arm"; the "control rod" is a separate part). Worn knuckle-to-suspension-arm bushings can also cause camber misalignment, as well as loose struts not fastened properly to the knuckle.
