The reciprocal of a number is the inverse of that number; that is, 1 divided by that number. So, the reciprocal of x is 1/x, and the reciprocal of 1/x is 1/(1/x) = x. (Taking the reciprocal of the reciprocal of a number yields the original number.) Examples: * The reciprocal of 2 is 1/2. * The reciprocal of 1/2 is 1/(1/2) = 2. * The reciprocal of 3/4 is 1/(3/4) = 4/3.
