A ribbon synth is a synthesizer that is operated with a ribbon controller instead of a more traditional keyboard like the ones seen in pianos. A ribbon controller is usually a flat, narrow surface that responds to the touch of a finger or a stylus by sending a control signal to the synthesizer's oscillators.
