a sign that says, "north, east, south, west"
A large scale map (covers a small area) shows more detail as there is more space to show detail. A small scale map (covers a large area or even a whole country, etc) doesn't have much space, so any detail is either shrunk or even omitted altogether.
im pretty sure a scale map is basically a map that is not to scale or what ever the map is of it shrunk it down. for example if you made a mini map for your room just using a piece of printer paper it would be a scaled map because its not referencing the actual size
On a city map.
No changing the map scale does not change actual distances. if you say that: 1inch = 1 mile or you say 2inches = 2 miles The scale changed but the distance between one city and the next city is still the same.
A simple way to understand large and small scale when referring to cartography and maps is that a large scale map will represent a particular object (such as the boundary of a particular city) larger in size than would a small scale map.A large scale map of, say, Los Angeles may cover an entire wall. Individual streets would be easily seen, even individual buildings. A small scale map of the same area (southern California) may fit the boundaries of the city of Los Angeles within an area the size of your thumbnail.
A map scale of 1 to 5000 would show about a mile of city in a foot of map space. That is good enough to show the typical 10 - 16 streets per mile found in many cities. A scale of 1 to 500000 would show 100 miles in a foot wide map. You could show Baltimore and Washington on the same page. This would not allow showing any small or medium sized streets.
No, not all maps have the same scale. Different maps can represent various areas, levels of detail, and purposes, leading to varied scales. A scale indicates the relationship between distances on the map and actual distances on the ground, which can differ significantly depending on the map's intended use, such as a city map versus a world map.
The map needs a scale so that distances on the map can be worked out.
Here is a little trick to know how to tell the difference between a large scale map, and a small scale map. A large scale map is a map where your house would look large on it. For example, a map of your neighborhood, or a map of you area. (You can see you house on this map) A small scale map is a map where your house would look small on it (or you can't see it at all), like a map of the world, or a map of Europe. So large scale = large house small scale = small house.
A large scale map is a map with much more detail and focus in a particular area. For example, a map of a neighborhood or street compared to a small scale map, a map of Europe.
The answer depends on the scale of the map.The answer depends on the scale of the map.The answer depends on the scale of the map.The answer depends on the scale of the map.
This is known as the scale.
