The term "asexual reproduction" means that new plants are created without the need for gametes. Self-pollination is not asexual reproduction -- the same plant merely provides both of the gametes used.

The two main forms of asexual reproduction (apomixis) are

vegetative (budding, rhizomes, aerial stems, or bulb division) and

non-vegetative, which includes parthenogenic or androgenetic seeds (agamospermy).

Asexual reproduction indicates that the plant cells divide into two, without the formation of sex cells (gametes) or zygotes (fertilized cells). Some cells within a higher plant still divide in this fashion to maintain the plant's metabolic operations.

Sexual reproduction involves the production of a new generation of the plant, separate from itself. The plant will generate one or both gamete cells (male and female), and the female cell is fertilized (pollenated) either by another plant of the species or by the plant itself. Sexual reproduction normally creates seeds, which will grow into new plants. This form of reproduction can alter the form or structure of the offspring plants.

Sexual reproduction

insects are used..you need an insect to land on the anther (male) of a plant. There it picks up pollen and leaves. It goes to another plant and deposits the pollen on the stigma (female). a pollen tube grows down from the pollen to the ovary. The male nucleus from the pollen moves down the pollen tube. The male nucleus meets the female nucleus (ovule) in the ovary. Fertilisation occurs.

Asexual reproduction

Plants produce new offspring from just one parent plant. Asexual reproduction plant refers to using any part of the plant to propagate except the seed. eg. rhizome, bulbs, sucker

"Asexual" reproduction is when the genetically identical offspring is produced by 1 parent, "sexual" reproduction is when 2 parents are involved in order to create genetically unique offspring.

Example 1: A dandelion has asexual reproduction, cows and bulls have sexual reproduction. Example 2: Somatic cells use asexual reproduction, humans/gametes use sexual reproduction
