Because the Sioux lived on the plains and followed the buffalo they wanted a shelter that they could transport easily and that would be safe. This shelter is called a teepee. It was made out of buffalo skin and wooden poles which they got from various places they lived.

They also had boxes for storage made from buffalo hide inside their shelter. They would build a fire in the center of the shelter for cooking and to keep warm.
