A shielded twisted pair or STP is a copper telephone cable that secures signal-carrying wires inside a conducting shield. It main purpose is to reduce the possibility of electromagnetic intrusion.
STP (shielded twisted pair) cable has one extra metal shield covering the insulated twisted pair conductors.
Shielded twisted pair wires are less susceptible to electrical interference caused by nearby equipment or wires and, in turn, are less likely to cause interference themselves. Because it is electrically "cleaner," shielded twisted pair wire can carry data at a faster speed. The disadvantage of shielded twisted pair wire is that it is physically larger and more expensive than twisted pair wire, and it is more difficult to connect to a terminating block.
Twisted pair is less sensitive to noise and crosstalk as the two wires in the pair are so close together that they generally both pick up the disturbance identically, then the receiving circuit cancels this common mode disturbance out. Twisted pair is also much less expensive than fully shielded cables like coax.
Twisted-pair cables are made out of copper, they are shielded with plastic to prevent electromagnetic interference but the actual cable is made out of copper.
Advantages of Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) over STP (Shielded) is that it's cheaper. Advantages over CAT3 which is untwisted is that the cable runs can be longer. The twists help to cut down on crosstalk.
blabla ^ What the hell kind of answer is that? :P UTP stands for Un-shielded Twisted Pair, and it is these twists that help to avoid crosstalk.
Shielded Twisted Pair (STP)
No
STP is shielded twisted pair - used in data communications.
The first variety is UTP or unshielded twisted pair, often used in LAN's with maximum cable length of 100m. The second one is STP or shielded twisted pair, extensively used for telephones.
To save the data flow from ATTENUATE and external INTERFERENCE.
Twisted pair wire is placed inside a thin metallic shielding, similar to aluminum foil, and is then enclosed in an outer plastic casing. The shielding provides further electrical isolation of the signal-carrying pair of wires. Shielded twisted pair wires are less susceptible to electrical interference caused by nearby equipment or wires and, in turn, are less likely to cause interference themselves. Because it is electrically "cleaner," shielded twisted pair wire can carry data at a faster speed than unshielded twisted pair wire can. The disadvantage of shielded twisted pair wire is that it is physically larger and more expensive than twisted pair wire, and it is more difficult to connect to a terminating block.
Shielded Twisted pair cable
So that other signals, such as a magnetic field, don't interfere with the cable signals.
Ethernet cable being shielded or unshielded twisted pair or CAT 5.
shielded twisted pair STP and UTP both contain 8 lines inside 4 lines are used for carrying the sending data and 4 others are used for receiving the data this is the reason why collision doesn't occur inside the STP and UTP
The twisting in a twisted pair cable helps make the cable immune to electromagnetic interference. These cables are of two types: Shielded and unshielded twisted pair.
there is. shielded cable reduces the interference though
