A spent hen is a term used for a hen who is past her prime egg laying years. Most chickens start to lay eggs at about four to six months old. They peak at about eighteen to twenty months of age and although they will continue to lay eggs up to about three years old they may not lay daily. Spent hens are often fattened up with a diet of corn for a few weeks and then used for meat

well after about 2 years a hen will not normally produce as many eggs. They are called a "spent hen" in the industry due to this. But if you hen is going through molt she might also not be producing. If they are getting the right diet though they can produce for a long time. I had a 10 year old hen that laid eggs until she was 10 and pretty reguarly until 6. So hope that helps yah.

ok.1st you can read all the answer arcs at once (in order)(ie.#1Onikakushi-hen, #2Watanagashi-hen, #3Tatarigoroshi-hen and #4Himatsubushi-hen. ) and then the answer arcs (also in order): (ie #5Meakashi-hen, #6Tsumihoroboshi-hen #7Minagoroshi-hen and #8 Matsuribayashi-hen.) Or you can read the question arcs THEN the corresponding answer arcs. (ie. #1Onikakushi-hen then #1(b)Meakashi-hen, #2Watanagashi-hen then #2(b)Tsumihoroboshi-hen etc.).the decision is up to you.^^

They sit in the hen house on eggs, on the roost or in a nest.

User Avatar

I wouldn't - a hen is a female bird. So there is no male "hen".

User Avatar

Nothing. Hen, laying hen, broiler hen. The amount of feed they receive and the age they live to is about the only difference. The laying hen will live to produce eggs and the broiler hen will eat well until she reaches optimal weight and be processed into meat.
