In Homer's "The Odyssey," the Sirens are dangerous mythological creatures who lure sailors to their deaths with their enchanting voices. To protect his crew from this temptation, Odysseus has his men plug their ears with beeswax and tie him to the ship's mast so he can hear the Sirens' song without being lured in. This demonstrates Odysseus's cleverness and ability to navigate dangerous situations.

The Sirens were 3 sea nymphs (Peisinoe, Aglaope & Thelxiepeia) who had the power to lure men to their deaths with their enchanting and charming siren song. When Odysseus came near the island of Anthemoessa on which the Sirens had settled, he and his companions stuffed their ears with wax (on the advice of Circe) and Odysseus tied himself to the mast of his vessel, until he was so far off he could no longer hear their song.
