"parallels" of latitude
A meridian.
The lines of latitude tell the angle between a place and the Equator - the imaginary line which runs east/west around the globe - at right angles to the line connecting the north and south poles. All lines of latitude are parallel to the Equator, and so they also run east/west or west/east. An easy way to remember the difference between latitude and longitude is longitude has the word long in it. they go north and south or you may say up and down and seem longer than the latitude lines which go left and right or east and west. i dont think the lines actually are longer but they appear to be. so think of it as longitude longer up and down. latitude the opposite, shorter, left and right. The lines of latitude on maps and globes 'run' in the same direction that the marks on a ruler do.
Latitude tells how far north or south a place is from the Equator. Longitude tells how far east or west a place is from the Prime Meridian. These can be remembered because Latitude sounds like Ladder and the lines for Latitude are like rungs in a ladder. Also, Longitude has the word Long in it and east to west is "Long."
There's no standard set of "lines", and there's no particular word that describes the intersection of a latitude and a longitude, since every one latitude intersects every possible longitude on Earth, and vice-versa. The crossing of a longitude 'line' and a latitude 'line', and their numbers, is exactly how any one specific point on the Earth's surface is located and described.
The Prime Meridian (of 0 degrees west or east) run north-south through Greenwich in London, UK. Lines that run north-south that are parallel to the Prime Meridian (but which meet at the poles) and which describe the distance west or east of this line are called lines of Longitude.Lines of Latitude describe the distance north or south of the equator.
The noun latitude can mean leeway, with the synonyms scope, flexibility, or license.Geographically, it means the angular distance from the plane of the equator.A meridian is another word for a line of latitude.Mental lines running sidewise around the Earth.(Help pinpoint places and locations).
Latitude lines never touch, so they are sometimes called "parallels".
Meridian.
Because there is no such word as paralell! They are all parallel - to each other and to the equator.
Lines of latitude are also called parallels (because they are all parallel to each other).
Latitude and longitude is used on maps.
another word for latitude is a line that goes from east to west.

The medieval Latin word 'latitudo' has the meaning 'width' and the degrees of latitude are imagined lines running around the width of the Earth.
Latitude lines. What helps me remember this is the word "latter", which sounds like "latitude". Ladders go up and down, and the lines MEASURE up and down (north and south). Longitude measures left and right (east and west), and can be remembered from the word "long".
Because there is no such word as paralell! They are all parallel - to each other and to the equator.
