it's a fan that can be installed both as a flushmount or with a downrod.
Tri means three so these ceiling fans probably have three mounting points or three points where they are attached to the ceiling
Yes. Most ceiling fans have parts that let you either put the fan close to the ceiling (which is typical for an 8' ceiling) or let it hang down farther from the ceiling. All my ceilings are 8' and I have 4 ceiling fans in 4 different rooms and they work good by letting me reduce my AC usage, which is much more expensive.
Most light boxes are not rated to support a ceiling fan. If you look at the box you should be able to see some marking on it telling you that it is rated for ceiling fans. Another way to tell is to look at the size of the screws that are used to mount the fixture to the box. In ceiling fan boxes the screws will be #10 in light boxes they will be #8. A common way to mount ceiling fans securely is to mount the fan onto the framing member directly. Since the light box is usually mounted to the structure of the building it is usually not too hard to mount the fan directly to the building structure too, and not to the light box.

Ceiling Mount Traverse Rod
It should not be necessary to 'break in' a ceiling fan.
The same height as the downrod is. Don't buy a low profile or flush mount ceiling fan, because these are specially designed for places where the ceiling is less than eight feet high. I would suggest you buy a traditional ceiling fan or a industrial ceiling fan. Industrial ceiling fans are specially designed for high and big places. There is no actual real significant difference, besides the color. A black ceiling fan works the exact same as a white ceiling fan. Of course, the brand of the fan might make a difference, though the color of the fan will not.
If you are referring to a ceiling fan it is in the bell housing where the fan connects to the electrical box at ceiling level.
