A twister, more properly called a tornado is a violently rotating column of air extending from the base of a thunderstorm to the ground, often accompanied by a visible condensation funnel and dust/debris cloud. Tornadoes are the most violent storms on earth, capable of producing winds over 300 mph and flattening entire communities.
