Pumice
Obsidian is an igneous rock. However it differs from other rocks because it contains no minerals. It consists of natural glass, which is not a mineral because it has no crystal structure.Answers from McDougal Littell, Earth Science book
That is a type of rock called pumice.
I learned about this when I was in the seventh grade. Pumice is volcanic. It was made by nature when lava and gases was thrown out of a volcano. As the gas bubbles escaped from the lava, it become frothy. When the lava cooled and hardened, the result was a very light rock material filled with tiny bubbles of gas.
Acidic igneous rocks, also known as felsic rocks, are composed primarily of light-colored minerals such as quartz, feldspar, and mica. These rocks have a high silica content and typically have a lower iron and magnesium content compared to mafic rocks. Examples of acidic igneous rocks include granite and rhyolite.
Dark igneous rocks usually have higher amounts of heavier elements such as iron. Light-colored igneous rocks tend to be richer in lighter elements like sodium and aluminum.

Felsic rocks.
Perlite is formed when water trapped in volcanic material vaporizes. This expands the material by up to 16 times its size, becoming light and absorbent.
An extrusive igneous rock has a very low density. This light colored rock is also known as a volcanic rock.

Normally, light colored igneous rocks are less dense compared to dark colored igneous rocks. This is because the light colored rocks have a less iron in them.

granitic igneous rocks are light colored because of a lower density than basaltic rocks
Intrusive rocks are light.
