Two examples of these craft are the Gokstad ship and the Oseberg ships. The second class was the Knarr. this was a 15 to 20 meter merchant ship with a wide beam and able to carry large loads. This was the type of ship Leif Erickson used on his journey to the America's. the last is the Byrding. this was a smaller coastal merchant ship built like the Knarr but on a smaller scale.
