A wave cut platform starts as an elevated plane. It becomes a cliff an erodes slowly with water, soil, and time.
A wave-cut platform forms when the continuous erosion of coastal cliffs by wave action causes them to retreat inland. As the waves wear away the base of the cliffs, a flat and relatively smooth surface is left behind, known as a wave-cut platform. This platform is typically located at the base of the cliffs and is constantly shaped by the erosive power of the waves.
Wave-cut platform formation is a result of erosion caused by the action of waves, which undermine and wear away the base of a cliff. Erosion occurs when waves constantly batter the coast, causing the cliff to retreat inland and leaving behind the wave-cut platform.
Wave-cut platforms begin forming as destructive waves hit against the cliff face, causing undercutting. This destruction of the base of a cliff may cause the cliff to eventually collapse. The collapsed material will eventually be weathered in to even smaller particles.

A wave cut platform is made due to erosion of the head land or cliff. The constant and repetitive crashing of the waves on the rock which have sand grains in them wear away at the rock and eventually wear out a cave that collapses on itself forming a platform below the headland or cliff and that ids then called the platform.
