Palisade
Depending on what type of wood you use will determine the care needed for a wooden fence. Generally speaking a wooden fence would need to be sealed and washed at certain intervals. Some wood types, though, require no maintenance or a one time sealant.
A palisade meant the same then as it does now. It's a fence made of (usually) wooden stakes placed in the ground. You might use one around a settlement or a fort.
You take wood, make wooden planks, then you make sticks with the wooden planks, then once you have enough sticks you should be able to make a fence.
