Rangeland
The ideal biome for growing crops and raising cattle and sheep is the temperate grassland biome. This biome has fertile soil, moderate rainfall, and a suitable climate for growing a variety of crops such as wheat and corn. The grasslands also provide ample grazing land for cattle and sheep to feed on.
Cattle are raised on grass to grow for meat. Most ranching occurs near mountains and areas of the prairie that are not suitable for growing crops. When the cattle reach an adequate size, they are sold to for slaughter.
Arable land is the term used to describe land that is suitable for growing crops. This type of land is typically fertile and able to support agricultural activities.
Pastoral farmers usually grow both cattle and crops, they might have a large herd of cattle and use the crops to feed and ship more cattle out. Or they may sell both the crops and cattle for a greater source of income. These producers will have ownership on more land, therefore, improving more acreage. Changes may include drainage for wet climates, added forms of nutrients into the ground for higher quality crops or pasture fields for large amounts of cattle.
