The abs light is on because there is a problem with the system. Until that problem is fixed the light will remain on. When the problem is fixed the light will reset itself after driving a few minutes.
If you disconnect the ABS module, the system will default to conventional brakes, but the ABS light will be on.

If you want to just disable the ABS then you can pull out the fuse for the ABS relay. The only thing is the ABS light will show on the dash.
