Your 3.5 gps doesnt have maps?

All new GPS receivers for auto use come with pre-loaded maps. Some older units did not but they would usually come with the maps on a CD or the URL to a download site. If your unit came with no maps and no way to load the maps then it is probably defective. If it is new in warranty then you should contact the manufacturer about getting it replaced. If it is older and out of warranty there is a chance the manufacturers customer support may be able to provide a cost effective way to get the maps but it would probably be better to replace the unit.

Where can you find old plat maps?

You can get old plat maps dating back to the early 1940's from Rockford Map Publishers. 1-800-321-1627. They publish plat books for the Midwest. thanks Rhonda. But I was looking for older plat maps - like from the 1800's. Specifically, for Southern, IN, North Central Kentucky and the Northen part of SC.
