The end of the shuttle does not mean the end for NASA. They are developing new technologies that will take us beyond low earth orbit. Including the SLS, a new way to take us to the space station and maybe deeper. They are also developing new ways to transport astronauts to deep space, including the MPCV. This capsule was originally designed for the Consttellations program but since the thing was cancelled they will be using it differently.
