Can you take barbiturates while in benzo withdrawal?
The short answer , yes. The main severe symptoms of Xanax withdrawal is agitation, nervousness, shakiness, muscle spasm and pain , the feeling of skin hypersensitivity, light sensitivity, headache, appetite disturbance and insomnia. The most dangerous threat is a seizure. All of these symptoms were controlled for me by Nembutal a strong barbiturate that was in widespread use in the U.S. only 20 years ago. The indications for barbiturates, Nembutal, Seconal, Amobarbitol, Phenobarbital are used still today for sedation , hypnotic and sleep. In a proper dose ( talk to your doctor) will relieve all symptoms of benzodiazipines. No kidding you can taper very quickly from the benzos whjle taking an adequate dose of barbiturates. A stronger dose may be required at night to overcome insomnia in the first two weeks or so. Then after a maximum of 4 weeks the benzos should be completely stopped and you can then wean off the barbiturates which should be very easy compared to the tapering of benzos which you would have faced over a six month to 1 1/2 year taper without one of the barbitols. ( Note: myself I recommend Nembutol 100mg. X2 every 4 to 6 hrs. for the first week.

Still researching what that was. July 10 1962---Librium #100/ Valmid #50/ Seconal #25/ Tuinal #25 July 17 1962--- Redisol #36/ Hydrozets #24/ Sulfa Gum/ Darvon #24 July 25 1962--- Chloral Hydrate #50/ Sulfathallidine #36 July 31 1962----Chloral Hydrate #50 August 3 1962---Nembutal #25/ Unidentified barbiturates #36/ Phenergan #25 Now, as to what these prescriptions were for: Chloral Hydrate: a sedative and hypnotic drug used as an anesthetic and sleep aid Librium: A sedative and hypnotic benzodiazapene tranquilizer. Valmid: Sedative/hypnotic used for insomnia. Not effective after seven days Percodan: pain reliever that is a combination of aspirin and oxycodone Lomotil: diarrhea medication that is chemically related to another opioid Dexedrine: a psychostimulant amphetamine Seconal: an anesthetic, hypnotic, sedative barbiturate Tuinal: a sedative comprised of two barbiturates- secobarbital sodium (Seconal) and amobarbitol sodium Hydrozets: throat lozenges Redisol: Injectable b-12 vitamins Sulfa Gum: for sore throat Darvon: opiate pain medication that has since been banned Sulfathallidine: pain relief/anesthetic Nembutal: Pentobarbital. Anesthetic sedative Phenargan: heavy sedative. Remember: every last one of these were prescribed by her doctor. By ONE doctor. Marilyn suffered from anxiety, insomnia, and endometriosis, which is what these pills were for, but her doctor should have been charged with medical malpractice and negligent homicide for prescribing them in these amounts. Dr Engelberg always denied prescribing Marilyn chloral hydrate ( just watch him speak on youtube) yet this prescription he wrote her sold at Juliens auction in 2011. So it seems everyone involved had a reason to lie.
