It's neither good nor bad; it just is. Once, dark skin was very good if one happened to live in very sunny places, where it protected from burning. Historically, sometimes darkness has been socially disadvantageous, but that's not something innate to dark skin, just one way to discriminate. Long noses or puffy eyelids would have done just as well.
However, looking back into our long long past, what we now call Anatomically Modern Humans were all black-skinned, while the Neanderthals were light-skinned (and redhaired).

During an interview by Billy Jean King tennis player Authur Ashe stated the hardest thing in life he had to deal with was racism. When only one race has an advantage we are all at a disadvantage.
