You need, basically:
Something that will dissolve in water
Something that will not dissolve in water and is not attracted to a magnet
Something that will not dissolve in water and is strongly attracted to a magnet

Any three substances that fit those criteria will work. However, the three you listed are probably the easiest to find.

You COULD base the second separation on "won't dissolve but will/won't float on water" instead of on magnetism, or on "won't dissolve but melt at very different temperatures". Again, probably more difficult that the listed example.

Is separating iron filings from sand with a magnet is a physical process?

Yes.

Hypothesis of separating iron filing and sulfur powder?

The hypothesis for separating iron filing and sulfur powder using a magnet is that iron is a magnetic material, whereas sulfur is not. By using a magnet, we can separate the iron filings from the sulfur powder based on their magnetic properties.

What experiment can you use to separate iron filings from small pieces of lead?

One way to separate iron filings from small pieces of lead is by using a magnet. The iron filings will be attracted to the magnet and can be separated from the lead. Simply move the magnet around the mixture to pick up the iron filings.

How do you explain the process of separating a mixture consisting of iron filings and sand in a plastic bowl?

Here's the full scientific report I had to do in year 7. Title: Magnetic Separation Aim: To separate iron filings from sand using a magnet. Equipment: Magnet, sand and iron filing mixture, plastic bowl Method: 1. Pour the mixture into the plastic bowl 2. Move the magnet slowly through the mixture Results: When the magnet was moved through the mixture, it picked up the iron filings but not the sand. Conclusion: In this experiment we demonstrated that a magnet can pick up iron filings in a sand and iron filing mixture through magnetism. The aim was achieved as we were able to separate the iron filings from the sand.

What method could you use a mixture of iron filings and sand?

You can use a magnet to separate a mixture of iron filings and sand. The iron filings will be attracted to the magnet, allowing you to easily lift them away from the non-magnetic sand. This method leverages the magnetic properties of iron, effectively separating the two components without the need for chemical reactions or complex processes.

Can you separate salt from iron filings by using a bigger magnet?

U can separate salt and iron filings from each other by using a bigger magnet . There are other ways too . You can also put both of the mixture in a cup of water and watch as the salt evaporate or disappear . But the iron filings will come to the top . Or spreading the mixture on a table and using a magnet to separate them .

What experiment proves a magnet's force can go through an object?

The iron filings experiment demonstrates that a magnet's force can pass through certain materials. Placing iron filings on a piece of paper and then placing a magnet underneath the paper will cause the filings to align along the magnetic field lines, showing that the magnet's force is able to pass through the paper.

Are iron filings magnetic?

Yes, iron filings are magnetic.

Why are iron filings used to find the magnetic field when copper filings are not?

Copper filings are not attracted to a magnet, as iron filings are.

What is the separation method for iron filings and sulphur to obtain iron filings?

One method to separate iron filings and sulfur is to use a magnet. The iron filings are attracted to the magnet and can be easily separated from the sulfur. This method takes advantage of the magnetic properties of iron filings.

Is unheated sulfur and iron filings is substance or mixture?

Sulfur and iron filings together are a mixture.

Are iron filings a mixture?

Iron filings may be pure elemental iron, it depends on the source of the iron.
