The budda was born in the year 563 BC. While traveling he encountered death and pain. After this he travled for 6 years. One day while sitting under a tree a great understanding came over him and Buddhism was started. The year he was sitting under that tree was 528 BC so I think that is when Buddhism started.

I hope this helped you. -E.V.A.
