An artificial heart is a heart which is an electrmechanical replacement for an organic heart.
First implemented April 4, 1969, an artificial heart was used to replace failing heart of a dying man, by Doctors Domingo_Liottaand Denton_Cooley.
Unfortunately the man died of an infection thirty two hours after the insertion. However this pioneering technology paved the way for future proceedures which resulted in a good sucess rate.
To act as a temporary pump for the circulatory system whilst a donor heart was found for the patient. They were never intended to be permanent installations, only as interim life-preservers to tide the patient over whilst they were waiting for a new natural organ.
The first succesful use of such a device in a human being was in 1982, when American Barney Clarke survived for 3 and a half months using the Swedish-designed Jarvik-7 machine until a donor heart became available for him. This gave surgeons and medical researchers confidence that a patient could survive the wait indefinitely using an artificial heart, but this was sadly mistaken- three years later another man, William J. Schroeder, died after having used a mechanical heart for 18 months. His last few months of life were spent in acute pain and suffering, which led to a subsequent ban on reliance upon artificial hearts for longer than 3 months or so. Nowadays, the emphasis is placed upon assisting a patient's diseased heart to keep on functioning using mechanical 'boosters' which are usually outside the body, until a healthy donor organ is found.
Nobody can have an artificial heart installed permanently- we are not machines, and the body just won't accept it.

The medical term for surgical creation of an artificial opening in the septum is "septostomy." This procedure is done to improve blood flow and alleviate pressure in the heart.
A pacemaker is a medical device that uses electrical impulses to regulate the beating of the heart. An artificial heart is a mechanical device that replaces the heart. It seems like a far more difficult and dangerous option.
Invented the Jarvik artificial human heart, and I presume the medical procedure to 'install'

the artificial heart is used to save human life when a human's heart fails.
The artificial heart is one of the most important developments in the medical field. It has saved many lives by acting to pump a patient's blood while they are waiting to either be fit enough for surgery or for a donor heart to become available.
83% of people need an artificial heart and have died because of it.

Barney Clark received the first permanent artificial heart in 1982. He survived 112 days after implantation, and died of circulatory collapse.

The factors that determine whether a person can be eligible for an artificial heart include a failed heart, and a physically damaged heart.
